Staff

Teaching staff at The Study are noted for their commitment, subject knowledge and communication skills.

Mr. Chamath Abeysundera, BSc. Sri Lanka, has an outstanding reputation as a Physics master who always goes the extra mile to assure his pupils' understanding of this challenging subject.

Mrs. Anupama de Alwis, BSc. Sri Lanka, Cambridge International Diploma for Teachers, is a mathematics graduate who teaches both Mathematics and Further Mathematics. She very much enjoys guiding her pupils through the intricacies of these subjects, and exposing them to the problem-solving and practical applications of the syllabi. Also a form tutor at The Study, Mrs. de Alwis finds extremely rewarding, the rigorous academic standard made possible by close interaction between teachers and pupils.

Mrs. Ianthi Dhammapala, BSc. Ceylon, PGDE, teaches Chemistry; in a long and very successful career she has served as Head of Science as well as teacher of chemistry at schools both in Sri Lanka and overseas. She very much enjoys the distinctive family atmosphere of The Study, where pupils feel free to ask questions and clear their doubts in the classroom, in this way eradicating the need for them to seek extra tuition. Mrs. Dhammapala also serves as a form tutor at The Study.

Mrs. Devika Fernando, B.Bus., Swinburne University, Aus, M.B.A University of Charles Sturt, Aus, brings to her role as teacher of Business Studies, her extensive private sector experience of marketing and finance, both in Sri Lanka and Australia. With a strongly held belief in the pedagogy of practice, she very much enjoys introducing her pupils to the numerous applications of the syllabi possible within the domestic business community. Mrs. Fernando also brings her experience of working with young adults, to her role as form tutor.

Mrs. Thushara Ramsay, B.A. Sri Lanka brings a wealth of experience to the teaching of Economics. After a very accomplished school and university career she lived and worked abroad, returning to Sri Lanka where she has enjoyed success as a teacher of secondary pupils, including a 2007 world prize winner for Economics .

Mrs. Priyanthi Fernando, MSc. Sri Lanka, Cambridge International Diploma for Teachers, brings her experience both as a trained teacher and a former employee of the Central Environmental Authority to very effective use in the teaching of Biology. With a passionate interest in biology, ecology and the environment, she enjoys the broad range of academic interests of pupils drawn to the study of biology. Her classes comprise students following the social sciences and humanities, as well as the natural and experimental sciences. Mrs. Fernando is a form tutor and the teacher in charge of our Interact Club.

Ms. Jill Macdonald, M. Phil. Oxon., the Principal of The Study, teaches English Literature at the College. She particularly enjoys the very international nature of the syllabus, which exposes pupils to the best of literature in English from the Commonwealth and the Americas.

Mr. E.A.V. Naganathan, MA. Oxon. brings his experience of the Oxford tutorial system to the History students at The Study. His classes are conducted in the tutorial style, with pupils benefiting from the close analysis and critique of their papers made possible by our small class sizes. Mr. Naganathan also conducts our highly successful SAT classes and assists the Principal in the preparation of candidates for the TSA, BMAT and LNAT university aptitude tests.

Mr. Prasad Puvimannasinghe, ACMA, teaches Accounts at The Study; his pupils have achieved excellent results in this subject, with one awarded a world prize by the Edexcel Foundation for his perfect score at the final public examination. Mr. Puvimannasinghe is the teacher-in-charge of Table Tennis.

Ms. Priyadarshini Sivasubramaniam, PGD, (BCS-UK) brings her extensive experience of the ICT industry and of best practice in the teaching of the very dynamic subject of Information & Communication Technology to The Study, where the course is a popular choice for pupils who will enter a wide range of university courses and careers.
